Continuing on from my explorations last week I wanted to re-look at the images I took to try to really play with the idea of history, atmosphere and the unique experience. As mentioned before I have been taking my film camera out but they are not ready to be developed yet, so this is some experimentation with the types of effects and images I would like to start creating.
I like the idea of the photograph becoming something unique instead of something that can be reproduced. In the initial taking of the photograph and the perspective it represents to the processing of the image. I want to take these experiments and develop them further. By taking the prints or negatives and leaving them in these places for a few weeks to allow the place itself to finish it off and to create a completely unique peice. I want to also play with creating these random occurrences through other means such as damaging the prints to use the idea of the "one off"
The light leak really are an extension of the idea of really capturing a place and it's atmosphere. To create a sense of time and history of which these places saturate you with from the moment you step foot inside. To add an element of uncertainty and fragility to them much like the future of many of these buildings and the condition of the items found within. To show that idea of a place falling out of societies norms, a forgotten and faded memory that was once the epitome of the everyday entrapment and is now our escape from it.
The idea of memories, time and experiences is important in these experiments and the type of images and emotions I am trying to create. To add a surreal and almost dream like quality to these places to represent the idea of a space that is trapped between two worlds one which is both a real place and yet outside of the real world. To capture the uncanny and almost intangible nature of the misplace in which these buildings now exist and the ghosts like presence of the past which inhabits every recess and shadow.
And just for good measure I took this photograph I took recently of my pug and added the same effect to give it a vintage feel.
