This time when I visited the factory, and also other more recent explorations, I have felt a lot more focused in what I wanted to take photos of and also a lot more able to do what I wanted with the camera. Since doing so much work, research and experimentation recently I was this time more interested in the details and strange left over traces of the buildings past life. Concentrating on how the process of direction has transformed this place from an everyday place of work to a strange and eerie ghost full of broken narratives and fragments and patterns.
I was keen to capture the texture of the walls and the sense of decay and patterns it can create. Also interesting are the remnants of the buildings previous use, the signs and switches and little paper racks still standing defiantly amist increasing chaos, clinging to the wall as long as they can creating haunting ghosts of how different this space would once have been.
I love to explore these places but it always hits me how a building such as this was once such an important part of the local area, someones office, someone who took pride in that office and yet it is falling into a slow and sad decline into inevitable demolition as renovation will inevitably be too expensive and all that history will be gone.
I also came across some examples of "Glitch Art" and felt it connected to my work and the idea of breaking down an image, making it more ambiguous and also censorship and a decline of information. But they also link to the idea of a deception and a distraction within the urban environment. The idea that the places we see around us are just a matrix to encourage conformity and create a condition of normality.
