Gruber Garratt Logos and Branding

Logo Experiments.

I have been keen to develop my professional outputs of late as well as working on my main practice and I had a unique opportunity to test out my new found skills, confidence and style by working with my current employers on their re-branding. 

This all began a few weeks ago when I was approached to re-design the QS Gruber Garratt letterhead into something which was a little less loud and worked better with the fax machines.

After getting good feedback from this I was again asked to go further and look at a total re-brand for Gruber Garratt as an individual firm and not as part of the QS group. The time scale was quite short and the brief was very vague as they were still unsure themselves as to the direction of the firm, the style is also something quite different to what I normally produce but this made for an interesting challenge.  

For this logo I really wanted to create something that had a modern feel to it but still felt like it held traditional values too. 

The green felt fresh and vibrant and also stands out from the sea of blue law firm logos and combined with the grey feels modern and bright whilst still keeping balanced and professional.

I chose fonts which are contemporary but also classic, the rounded feel producing an approachable and friendly vibe whilst the industrial and letterpress feel comes across strong and bold which is how I felt a law firm would like to appear. The circular exterior also reflecting these values and complements the shape of the lettering and balances the heavy type. 

I like to think of a logo for a firm or company as creating a personality which will be the first impression a potential client sees. Here I have tried to create a logo that represents a company which is easy to approach about any legal issue where you will receive friendly and helpful advice, but at the same time they are a strong firm who will always fight your cause and obtain the best outcome.

Here I initially looked at using a simpler design with a square frame but felt it lacked personality and was too harsh. 

My initial developments including line shading to thicken the letters out without adding too much weight and also to create a more classic signpainted feel. 

I also looked at using just the one "G" to create more of an icon and also simplify the design further. I also started looking at the circular form here which I felt worked much better. 

I also looked at the logo in the blue of the original GG logos from a few years ago but felt it didn't have the subtly the green and grey did and also reminded me too much of the facebook logo. 

In my final revisions I looked at adding element of white into the design to create more of an impact and appear fresher and lighter. 

I also added the logos to a letterhead I had created for the firm.
