I've been quite busy recently getting a lot of my ideas going and wanted to play with a till roll and the idea that this "Drip Drip Drip" was the never ending beat of the forgotten city below us.
I took some of the prints from the letterpress and had a stamp made up online. I wanted to create something that I felt represented in some part the experience of being below Manchester. To highlight the little things you notice when in these spaces, the drips, the creaks and cracks suddenly take on a life of their own, they become strange and sinister almost torturous.
So I created the till roll to represent that constant and endless dripping. I like the idea that this out of the context of my idea could mean almost anything to anyone and that is the point with my work. I want it to have a meaning specific to me, but I don't want to force that on people, my whole philosophy is about people finding their own paths, looking again at something and engaging with it.
This would also work quite well as an installation in the street and would provide a context to it which would maybe speak a little more directly about looking at the world around us with new eyes and re-thinking our surroundings and the messages they give us. It is about the hidden and the reveal, the things that go on all around us that we are unaware of because we are dashing around from A to B without stopping to look.
